Industrial Blower: What Is It? How Are They Used?

Industrial blowers are a necessity for any industrial operation. They are used across several industries, from agricultural to chemical to food processing. Before purchasing one, it’s essential to know what a blower is, how you use it, and which type of industrial blower is best for you. We want to help you gain this understanding and make the best decision for your company.

What is an industrial blower?

Industrial blowers are fans and blowers built to deal with the demands of industrial-level production. The primary function of an industrial blower is to supply large amounts of air or gas to a plant. Specifications can be set as to where the airflow moves within your space.

What is an industrial blower used for?

Within this broad role, industrial blowers can be used for several tasks. These include (but are not limited to):

  • Ventilation
  • Exhaust
  • Combustion
  • Cooling
  • Aeration
  • Particulate transport
  • Drying
  • Air-cleaning

Industrial blowers focus on producing good air pressure for your space–due to this, they have higher pressure levels than fans, with a ratio of 1.11 to 1.2.

Because industrial blowers are used to create large amounts of force and pressure, they must be made from high-strength materials. However, the specifications of what components go into an industrial blower will depend on the type you choose.

What types of industrial blowers are available?

We can sort industrial blowers into two main categories: centrifugal and axial.

Centrifugal blowers:

Centrifugal blowers create airflow by harnessing centrifugal force. They filter air through rotating impellers. These impellers increase the volume and speed of the air slowly. This increase causes the fan wheel to move. As the fan moves, so is more air able to enter the propellers, causing the fan to move–and so on, as the kinetic energy of the fan increases.

Centrifugal blowers are the most commonly used type of industrial blower, as their movement of air is constant. Plus, its ability to create high pressure through harnessing centrifugal force means it is perfect for dealing with harsh operations, in which high temperatures, moist air, or dirty air may be present.

Axial blowers:

Axial blowers rely on axial forces to work. They contain a central hub that attaches to extending blades. Much like the wing of an airplane, air pumped into axial blowers is lifted and pressurized by the force of the blades.

Typically axial blowers are used for ventilation, simple extraction, and cooling jobs. They can exhaust contaminated air but work best in supplying fresh air.

Axial blowers are more compact than centrifugal blowers, perfect for small nooks, like issues surrounding dist streams, steam, or smoke problems.

These are the two main types of blowers, but more if these two don’t suit your needs. Ask us at Baghouse America if you’d like to hear about other alternatives.

What are the benefits of industrial blowers?

Many industries rely on good airflow to run smoothly. But industrial blowers’ ability to move airflow and harness that power for tasks such as cleaning, filtration, and removal makes them worthwhile additions to your manufacture.

Durability:

Industrial blowers are incredibly durable, withstanding harsh conditions and lasting many years before needing replacement.

Energy efficiency:

Industrial blowers are incredibly energy-efficient, relying significantly on their build-up of kinetic energy once they’ve started.

The level to which your blower will be energy efficient is affected by many minute alterations in different types of fans. However, research has shown which are the most energy-efficient and has established some tips on making your fans more efficient.

Safety:

Industrial blowers improve the safety of a workplace significantly by keeping the air clean for workers and keeping the temperature cool for electronics.

Hygiene:

By controlling humidity levels in the workplace, industrial blowers can remove dampness. Blowers prevent the birth and development of foul odors and unhygienic conditions by eliminating dampness.
